Countdown

March 2, 2010

There have been only nine more days left till today when I have to fly back to Germany… :(

For the last week, after the trip to the waterfalls of Iguazú and to Brazil, I theoretically planned to go to Salta in the north of Argentina but there were neither time nor money left. Therefore I used these last days to walk the city to try capturing every corner I haven’t seen or hasn’t been on a photo yet:

I participated at a guided tour through the Casa Rosada waving from the balcony to the people of Argentina, visiting an art exhibition in the Biblioteca Nacional also trying to take a picture from the city, looking in on the university for the last time, visiting the Tango museum seeing some original object from famous tango celebrities as Troilo and Gardel and enjoying the art sculptures of tango couples, taking tango lessons at the DNI Tango school every day and eating as much beef as possible closing our semester abroad with some international friend in the parilla restaurant La Cabrera having a Vulcano de Chocolate, an unforgettable dream! :)

At the end, time was to short so that I could see everything. :( Therefore I definitely have to come back to Buenos Aires one day!!! :)

Day Off

November 11, 2009

Today I had a day off because we didn’t have Spanish class. The professor just didn’t show up. Therefore I decided quite spontaneously to stroll along through the town with my camera again and enjoy the great weather. :)

I took some pics on the way home from university (Avenida 9 de Julio, Plaza Lavalle). My aims for today: Argentinean’s oldest café Tortoni (est. 1858) at Avenida de Mayo 825 and the museum of Tango right next-door, and Plaza Congreso with its National Congress. On the way I took some pics to capture some impressive spots. At the café I ordered some Lomo ‘au gratin’ (of ham, tomatos and cheese) with fresh pressed orange juice and of course a coffee. Sitting there was like eating in a museum. There are still the original tabels made of wood and marble. Every guest walked around and took pictures of all the pics and paintings at the wall or of the sculptures of famous guests in the corners. So did I at the end of my stay. ;) Furthermore I bought a coffee jarrito (little coffee mug) of this café. I wanted to visit the Academia Nacional del Tango (museum) but time was too short.

After this refreshment I headed for the Plaza Congreso up the avenue. There was just one problem: the sun was already setting, namely behind the Congreso Nacional :( Nevertheless I went there and took some pics. There was one of the ‘every day demonstrations’ producing a big chaos on the street. On the way home I stopped by at my new favorite ice cream place ‘Olimpica‘  (Av. de Mayo 752). :-P

Resorts Lover:

I’ve not been in the Philippines for long but its clear to me it’s an amazing land. Anyway, I’m just commenting here because I’m reading blogs about Manila. and found your blog through google. If you can share any ideas on things to try when in Manila then I’d appreciate hearing them. Happy Holy Week!

Vliebergh Anne:

Hello Ingo,

My name is Anne Vliebergh, I am a 42 years old woman of Belgium and I have a request for you.

I’m reading with great pleasure your blog because I’m a big big big fan of Argentina. I had the luck
to spend 2 weeks in Buenos Aires in July, together with my friend, a lady of about my age too.

We had the time of our live over there as we have a lots of friends over there and now we were able to meet
them in person. We have received so many enthousiastic reactions when we came home so that I decided to write
down a report of our trip. Afterwards I added some photos to my report…but the problem is that we don’t have
so many photos and we didn’t have such a great camera…so can I use some of the photos on your blog
in my report. Of course I’l mention your name and if you like I’l enumerate the pictures that are yours.

For the moment, the report only exist in Dutch (I’m Flemish). I’m looking at a translater to put it in Spanish
because I have to spread it in Argentina also. I do speak a bit Spanish, but not enough to translate the whole
report. So, if I have the Spanish version, and if you like, I can give you a copy of my report in Spanish later on.

I hope on a positive reaction !

Enjoy the coming New Year !!!

Anne, Belgium.

Weather here in Bs.As. is just too hot! It’s 2am and we still have 28°C. There will be 36°C tomorrow. Good that I’ll go to the Jungle where it’ll be 3°C less - but 90% of humidity :-S
